These projects create opportunities, joy and happiness in our communities, through the involvement and investment of our greatest assets - our employees. We want our employees to develop both professionally and personally, and that is why we actively encourage them to volunteer their time and give back to their communities by leveraging their skills and interests to help others.

Learn to Play & Play to Learn – Hape-Huji Employee Volunteer Program
Launched in 2021, the Hape-Huji Preschool of the Future Project aims to strengthen access to - and improve the quality of - early childhood education for 3–6-year-olds in rural Yunnan, China. Part of the project is the Hape Employee Volunteer Program, which, in collaboration with the Shanghai Huji Foundation, enables Hape employees to volunteer their time and skills to support the project.
In December 2022, our first 3 employees spent 14-days at our Kindergartens, where they volunteered their time and assisted teachers with classroom routines and daily activities, helped organise sports activities, created colourful murals for the classroom walls and provided teacher-training for the toys that Hape donated to the project. Working together with the local team, our employees also built outdoor toys from recycled materials for the kids to enjoy and treasure.
With their joyful spirits, open hearts and great dedication, our three volunteers made this first Hape-Huji Volunteer activity a great success!
Senior Toy Experience Workshop
While loneliness is a universal emotion everyone encounters at some point in their lives, older people in particular are at greater risk of suffering from solitude and social isolation. Research has linked these grim conditions to higher-risks for a variety of physical and mental conditions in older people suffering from loneliness.
Activities that encourage social interaction such as playing games can, on the contrary, boost mental health, reduces stress and enhance cognitive ability. Plus, such activities can create lots of happiness and joy!
In the second half of 2022, Hape partnered with the Ningbo Beilun Charity Federation to donate 120 sets of toys worth close to 4,000 euros to 20 nursing homes that cooperated with the Beilun Senior Care Association. The Hape China team also partnered with local charities and community service institutions to organise several senior toy experience workshops in the local community, where our China team members volunteered to create stimulating game activities that encouraged laughter and stimulated conversations and social bonding.
Toys aren’t just for kids, and at Hape we believe in the benefits of play across all ages, and are committed to helping improve the quality of life for seniors through the power of play.
Donating Toys to B&U Care to Support Families in Need
We care about the people and local communities we are working in and take an active role in supporting and empowering children of families with low incomes. That is why, since 2016, we regularly partner with the “B & U Care Project”. Initiated by the China Toy & Juvenile Products Association (CTJPA), the “B & U Care Project”, helps children in remote and rural areas of China.
In December 2022, Hape once again collaborated with the project, donating a large amount of educational toys worth more than 74,473 euros, offering joy, play and education to over 2000 children in need.
